Racecar – “Wonderment”

So I discovered “The Adventures Of Pete and Pete” the other day which is a really awesome show that aired in the mid 90’s on Nickelodeon. If you haven’t seen it already go check it out, it’s all on Youtube. Seriously, I’ll wait…

Back already? Told you it was cool. You may also have noticed not only the bit parts played by famous actors and musicians such as Iggy Pop, Juliana Hatfield, Luscious Jackson and Steve Buscemi but the cool indie soundtrack.

I’m not so fond of the tracks played by the “house” band Polaris even though they generally fit the show well but one track in particular by the band Racecar sparked my interest as it sounds very much like Velocity Girl, a band I happen to like a lot.

“Wonderment” which is the only song by them featured in the show, is (apart from some pretty good 60’s surf style guitar breaks) the embodiment of Mid 90’s American Indie. From the main rhythm to the faux English vocals (at least I’m guessing they are fake – I couldn’t find much info on the singer) it almost hurts that the rest of their album “Girlish” was nowhere close to the same standard.
